Entering the Arab Parts

Tel Aviv // Friday, February 25, 2005 @ 11:10AM

Quick change.

The blocks before I reached the old Jaffa city wall had a very different flavor than those in the other parts of Tel Aviv I had been to. They had a much more hectic, tangled feel. Noisier. More complex. And somewhat intimidating at first, though I quickly got used to the difference. (Arabs sure seem to like their shops pouring out into the street with stuff.) This is the beginning of the old Arab city of Jaffa. If you're after a souveneir hookah or a shish-kabob, this is the place to be.

Check out the building on the left. It's partially crumbled and there's a large mural around the exposed walls of that second-floor room. And then they have, y'know, a couple of satellite television receivers on the roof. Heh.
